The depth of the field set to line up in
the Gr.1 Memsie Stakes continues to grow with confirmation Grunt (O'Reilly x Ruqqaya) will now
take his place in Saturday week's A$1 million feature.
The Australian Guineas winner has pulled up
in great order - even too well - from
his fifth placing in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes and now Mick Price has
reconsidered the best path for the talented Cox Plate-bound colt.
"I'm going to run Grunt in the Memsie Stakes,
he's pulled up very well and he's a four-year-old entire, he needs another run
I think," Price said on Tuesday.
"Four weeks between the Lawrence and
the Makybe Diva Stakes is just too long so I've decided to give him a run at
There will need to be a rider change,
however, with Damien Oliver having forgo his association with the son of
O'Reilly for the one start only, given the Scobie Breasley Medallist is already
booked to ride Vega Magic in the same race.
"A new rider for Grunt in the Memsie
still needs to be decided, Damien [Oliver] is not available and Michael Walker
is in Sydney on Memsie Stakes Day so we'll have to work that out." -racing.com
