Trelawney recorded its first winner of 2018
when the Bryce Heys-trained Travancore (Savabeel x Stella Livia) was successful
at Randwick on New Year’s Day.
The four-year-old gelding gained his third
career win in the ATC Handicap (1400m) when coming from last to sweep wide and nose out the favourite Smartedge in a photo finish.
Travancore was purchased by Heys for $190,000
from the draft of Trelawney Stud at the 2015 NZB Premier Sale.
Titus Livius mare Stella Livia is the dam
of five foals to race for three winners, including the Group One placed Spieth
(Thorn Park) who is also trained by Heys.
The three-year-old, Star of the Seas (Ocean Park), has had two starts for
two placings for trainer Chris Waller, and holds a nomination for Friday’s
meeting at Canterbury.
The two-year-old by ShamExpress, who was purchased for $260,000 at the 2017 NZB sale, is showing potential in his early education and pre-training in New Zealand and will head across the Tasman to Kris Lees in the Autumn.
The current yearling by ShamExpress will be part of a select draft Trelawney will take to Sydney for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
