Trelawney Stud scored a top result at Caulfield
on Boxing Day when their NZB graduate Addison (Jimmy Choux x Ruqqaya) nudged
out Winkelmann (Rip Van Winkle x Crepe de Chine) in the Dennis Hanrahan
Handicap (1600m).
The Lindsay Park-trained Addison flew home
late from last to win taking her record to three wins from four starts.
Co-trainer David Hayes himself wasn’t even
sure the horse had finished in the placings when he was making his way down to
the mounting yard after four horses appeared to hit the line together.
‘’I thought she ran fourth but I was on a
bad angle,’’ he said.
Hayes said the lightly-raced Jimmy Choux
filly, who was purchased for $90,000 by Belmont Bloodstock from Trelawney’s
2015 NZB draft, had the ability to make the grade in better races.
Winkelmann, who is part owned by Brent and
Cherry Taylor, continued her run of good form following a runner up finish at
Moonee Valley earlier this month.
