Trelawney Stud graduate Speith (NZ) (Thorn Park x Stella Livia) will be out to shake off his Group One jinx when lining up in Saturday’s Gr.1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.
The Bryce Heys-trained sprinter has had three starts at Group One level and has had chequered passages in his narrow seconds in the Darley Classic (1200m) and Lightning Stakes (1000m) before running unplaced in the Newmarket Handicap (1000m).
Heys believes getting back on a circle will help Spieth after the frustration of slowly run straight races at Flemington.
"They just seem to go along a bit more around a bend," Heys said. "Even though he has had Group One seconds, I think his best runs were a benchmark win over 1100 metres at Rosehill and his win in the Lightning Handicap at Randwick in the spring.
"He seems to be able to really quicken from a turn, and I think you are going to see that on Saturday.”
