Savaria's (Savabeel x Amathea) win in today's Gr.3 Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup has given further black type credit to Trelawney Stud's lot 523 in the upcoming NZB Select Yearling Sale.
The half-brother to Savaria is from the second crop of Australian Group Two winner Niagara (Encosta De Lago) who stands at The Oaks Stud.
Savaria is the first foal from O'Reilly mare Amathea who has produced two foals to race for two winners. The other winner is Interstellar (Shamoline Warrior) who had five starts in New Zealand for two wins before transferring to the Hawkes Racing stable where she has had two starts for one win.
Savaria first came to prominence at Trentham in
2015 when she won the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks and now she has added the Gr.3
Wallaceville Estate Wellington Cup to her record in the capital.
While Savaria’s form has been largely
patchy in between times, trainer Roydon Bergerson had been in a confident pre-Cup
“It’s a great feeling and we’ve had a few knockers,
but she’s a very good mare and her lead-up runs had all been good,” he said.
Raced by Taranaki couple Des and Kay
Fleming, Savaria was ridden by Hayden Tinsley who had also been aboard the
daughter of Savabeel in the Oaks.
