2015 NZB Premier graduate Savvan (Savabeel x Ruud Van Slaats) broke her maiden status at Kembla Grange on Tuesday when winning over 1600m.
It was just the fourth start for the James Cummings-trained 3yo filly who ran second on debut at Warwick Farm in August.
Settling fourth after the jump Savvan travelled well to make a move when coming around the bend and winning by 0.3 of a length from the Goldophin owned Drachenfels.
Saavan was purchased for $350,000 by Duncan Ramage and is owned by Think Big Stud, Kia-Ora Stud and Westcode Pty Ltd. She is the third foal from multiple Group Two winner Ruud Van Slaats (Van Nistelrooy) who was bred and raced by Trelawney and retained to become a valuable member of the broodmare band.
Ruud Van Slaats is also the dam of the stakes placed Smashing (Pins) who is nearing a return this prep, and the Australian placed Slumberland (Rip Van Winkle). She has an Ocean Park 2yo colt, Ocean Park yearling filly, and a Savabeel filly at foot.
