Procurement toughs it out to win at Ellerslie
02 Apr 2016The Trelawney bred and owned Procurement (O'Reilly x Procure) dug deep to win at Ellerslie over 1200m on Saturday.

This was the fourth win for the five-year-old mare who is trained by Stephen Marsh.  Procurement jumped well before settling on the rail and was given a nice trip by Lee Magorrian.  She shrugged off early challengers in the straight and looked to be in the clear before Fully Funded came from nowhere in a late run to the line.  Procurement fended off the challenge to win by .1 of a length.

In the Central Districts it was pleasing to see Mabeel (Savabeel x Ma) win the Listed Fairdale/Goodwood Studs Flying Handicap.  Cherry manages this horse for long-time client and friend Deborah Ho.  Co-trainer Natalie Young indicated there were bigger assignments on the agenda for the talented son of Savabeel.

“The Easter Handicap has always been his target and the plan we have is to go to Queensland for the Stradbroke Handicap.

“We’ve always thought he was the right type of horse for that race – he can run amazing sectionals.” said Young.

In Australia 2012 NZB graduate Kaiser Franz (Savabeel x Call Me Lily) won at Doomben when dropping down in distance to 2030m.  A $65,000 purchase, the consistent gelding was purchased by Paul Willetts and is trained by Robert Heathcote.
