Dual Group 1-winner Suavito is set to take her talents overseas with connections targeting races in Hong Kong and Royal Ascot.
Nigel Blackiston’s mare will compete in Saturday’s Australian Cup at Flemington before heading to the Group 1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin then progressing on to England.
The trip is an exciting one for Suavito (Thorn Park x Queen Cha Cha), who has been in terrific form this campaign with a win in the C.F. Orr Stakes first-up before coming third in the Futurity Stakes.
“After the Australian Cup we can back off her for a couple of weeks, we leave here on about the 14th of April,” Blackiston said.
“Then after that we’ll be in quarantine in Hong Kong before we head to England.
“At Royal Ascot there’s several options, there’s two Group 1s - one at a mile and one at 2000m - or there’s a couple of Group 1 mares races that might be more suitable.”
The Flemington trainer says Suavito gives him every indication she can handle the 600m step-up in trip from the Futurity to the Australian Cup.
“I’m confident she’ll run a strong 2000m ... but I’m not confident about the Group 1 - there’s no such thing as an easy Group 1,” Blackiston said.
“I’m happy with my mare and I think she’s got a very good chance.” -racing.com
